Presenting Horrible Movie Clichés, an illustrated guide, brought to you by the New York International Latino Film Festival.
I must remember this when I’m writing scripts. I mean, for the most part I try to keep things semi-accurate. But this will just be another reminded
To help with your rape culture discussion, you can look up the Stubenville rape case, just for an example of how horrible it is. Umm rape culture involves victim blaming. The VICTIMS feel guilty and receive blame for " letting" the rape happen. Some of the reasons for men to rape include being psychopaths and from porn culture that promotes pain and forced sex as more fulfilling sexually. We live in a fucked up world. Idk if that helps...

Oh, trust me Anon. We talked about the Stubenville case.
I can’t remember all his rebuttles about it, he did ‘get it’ but at the same time felt like that didn’t seem like rape culture. I know he did say “It seems like there is a lot more to this case than what is out there…I mean, what they did was horrible, don’t get me wrong. But they only got..what a year a piece? Shouldn’t they have gotten more if it was exactly what we saw on the news?”
Let me say this though: My boyfriend does NOT condone any of this crap, he sees it as horrible, he understand the victim blaming (sorta) and thinks forced sex is horrible. (Especially considering my own past, which he knows 90% of….he gets the whole forced sex thing)
I guess the issue is that he doesn’t quite see it the way I do. I am was a victim of this and its really dear to me. He on the other hand, gets my pain but doesn’t quite see the whole ‘rape culture’ thing.

It annoys me how if you’re not good at Art or Music it’s okay because you’re just “not talented” in that area but if you’re not good at Science, Maths or English you’re “dumb”.
It annoys me how if you’re good at Art or Music you’re “super talented” and “special” and “creative” but if you’re good at Science or Maths you’re a nerd.

But…being a nerd is good. Being called a nerd isn’t an insult. Being called ‘dumb’ because one might not be good at math or science is.
At least, I don’t see being a nerd as being bad. Like John Green said: “
“Why is being a nerd bad? Saying I notice you’re a nerd is like saying, ‘Hey, I notice that you’d rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you’d rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Linsey Lohan. Why is that?”
Come now, realize being nerd is empowering.

Actually, that’s a common misconception. Cats kill animals and bring them to you because they think you’re a shitty hunter and they don’t want you to starve.
So it’s kind of love, but it’s mostly because you suck at catching food
I’m pretty sure “I don’t want you to starve” is the maximum level of love cats are able to give.
#this is why i love cats #they give you tongue bathes and bring you food because they think you’re a giant hairless cat that sucks at being a cat
So I need your help Tumblr.
My boyfriend and I like to debate and talk about things.
The latest one is Rape Culture. He doesn’t seem to get it. (I think he doesn’t seem to think it’s -Rape culture- real, but he understands rape is wrong and gets when it is rape)
So what I need from you…is examples of rape culture. Something to show him what it is. Because I always come up with these ideas…and then forget them. Sometimes I find it useful if I write it down, other times..it’s just useful having other people point out big ones that I wouldn’t have thought about.

“So I shouldn’t be surprised that the Mother’s Day Parade shooting has largely been forgotten. On Sunday, shots were fired into a crowd during a parade in the New Orleans 7th ward. Police said they saw three suspects running from the scene.
This is the largest mass shooting in the United States where the shooters were still at large after the crime was committed. Think about that for a minute. From Columbine to Virginia Tech to Fort Hill to Aurora, all the shooters were either killed or apprehended on site. But the person or people responsible for shooting 19 Americans are still free.”
One of the people who got shot was an antiviolence blogger. Somehow we aren’t seeing massive solidarity for New Orleans or the entire city going on police lockdown to find the perpetrators. Two reasons: 1) This mostly affected Black people, and we all know how much the media and the police give any fucks about Black people in New Orleans; 2) This was a gun crime, so we can’t criticize it because GUNS ARE FREEDOM!
Wait…WHAT!? I missed this?! PLEASE SEND ME LINKS.
This is horrible!

People being angry about ~dem gays~ on Target’s Facebook.
I just want to give my two cents on this and tell you a story.
A couple weeks ago, I was hired at Target. I have a job at Target. Not a big deal right?
It is a big deal because i’m a transman.
It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that it’s hard for me, my brothers, and sisters to get a job. There are legal restraints regarding the job and if you don’t pass, it’s hard to be taken seriously at a job interview.
Right on the application, it asks what your preferred name is. It also asks if there is anything that target should know. I put the fact that I am a transman, expecting not to get a call because usually when you put that down, people will throw out the application. I got TWO interviews.
At the interview, they asked me about it. I told them I am on hormones and they told me that they didn’t care. Not in the sense that they don’t emotionally care, but that it didn’t matter. I was male and that’s all that mattered. They also told me that they give sex same couples benefits in states that do not recognize them as a married couple.
At my job orientation, I was not misgendered once. Even my supervisors who weren’t sure of my gender avoided pronoun use, which I found only happens when you’ve had pronoun training. They gave me a name tag with my preferred name and didn’t ask questions. I felt safe and respected, which is huge for a trans* person.
TLDR: Target is amazing not just for the LGB, but also the T. Shop there for the rest of your life.
As if I didn’t love Target enough. <3 This is wonderful!

So today Angelina Jolie had double mastectomy, which is the removal of one’s breasts, to prevent Breast cancer. So instead of praising Angelina on her bravery, men on Twitter decided to ridicule her, even calling her stupid for removing her breasts. For those of you on Tumblr that are attacking Feminists about being delusional about sexism against women and misogyny here’s your fucking proof that sexism and misogyny exists.
This honestly is making me really fucking sad and making me want to cry

A bonsai tree can be any tree that is grown in miniature to resemble an aged tree. The more mature a bonsai tree, the more value it has. Bonsai is Japanese for ‘tree in a pot’. However, simply placing a tree in a tiny pot does not make it bonsai. The grower must possess vision and skill to train the tree’s foliage and guide its shape. This is done through pruning the roots to keep the tree small, wiring the branches, and using other techniques to make the bonsai tree take on the look of a mature tree in nature.
After high school I worked at a plant nursery that sold Bonsai and Bamboo.
I was in-charge of upkeep on over 200 trees.
I don’t think people understand how much work it is to take a scrub and turn it into a beautiful tiny tree.
Each plant has its own shape and grows a different way.
You really have to treat each one differently.
Bonsai is an art form.
Can someone teach me about Bonsai? I’ve always wanted to take care of one….I just don’t know how to.
The Minnesota Senate passed marriage equality today! By a margin of 37-30, the senate approved the measure, which was approved by the house on Friday. It will now go to Governor Dayton, who has pledged to sign it.
